Johnstown


This bustling village of nearly 3500 residents is part of a 4000 acre tract of land deeded to revolutionary soldier John Brown in 1800 by President Adams for military services. Brown sold the property in 1810 to Dr. Oliver Bigelow who laid out the village and donated the streets and alleys of Johnstown, as well as the historic town square. The town square is home the village offices, the library, and the historic opera house constructed by Elizah Barton in 1884.
